Di Wu - Pianist

There are words that sing. There are words that paint grand pictures in the mind. But there are no words that can adequately portray what Di Wu’s hands create on a keyboard. If there were, you could lift this page to your ear and listen to the magic.

Spencer Theater
for the Performing Arts:
Some writers have tried to describe her talent. “Fire and authority,” tried the Washington Post. “Charisma, steely technique and keen musical intelligence,” was the Philadelphia Inquirer’s attempt. Harris Goldsmith wrote that “her glissandos are unbelievable.”

We would urge you to go to and search “Di Wu” and listen to why words fail us. Di Wu is the hope your mother had when she made you take piano lessons. Share in her gift. Be amazed at what a piano can do when in the right hands.

Di Wu will also join the Linden String Quartet during the evening concert to perform Dvorak’s Piano Quintet in A major.

Linden String Quartet

String quartets are fun. They go places that bulky orchestras can’t. At the same time (since there are only four musicians) any little mistake will not be covered up by 50 orchestral friends. Felix Umansky, Sarah McElravy, Catherine Cosbey and Eric Wong are the Linden String Quartet, grand prize winners of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. They are one of the premiere young string quartets in America today.

The Singing Chef Andy Lo Russo

Yeah, that might be the Tony Soprano crew at the next table. They love their Italian food, especially a good gravy. So does New Jersey raised Andy Lo Russo, but he was torn between his love for Italian food and his passion for singing. He’d even signed with Epic Records, and had recorded several jazz standards as well as studied the arias and love songs of the great Italian composers.

A couple of decades ago he combined his family’s favorite recipes and his musical love... and The Singing Chef was born (along with abest-selling book, Sing and Cook Italian).

This will be a seated cabaret-styled cooking dinner show concert on the Spencer stage. Andy will cook and sing his way through every course being prepared for the evening. His show starts with an upbeat song called Tarantella. Some of the popular songs you might hear while Andy performs are That’s Amore and Volare. “I like to snake through the audience, followed by the wait staff,” says Andy, “and get the energy in the room sizzling.”

The evening’s menu at the Spencer will consist of : Fennel & Orange Salad with Walnuts and Sherry Vinaigrette, Chicken Scallopini with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Julienne Vegetables, Broccoli with Red Sauce over Creamy Polenta, Nona Grace’s Ricotta Cake.

A Ride with Bob - Ray Benson & Asleep At The Wheel

You’re getting two Texas Swing legends in four consecutive performances as Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel perform their tribute to the late great Bob Wills: A Ride With Bob.

The group returns to Ruidoso from Austin, Texas, for an extended run of this Wills tribute (which sold-out four shows in the summer of 2009). In the musical, Benson, playing himself, boards a tour bus for a gig in Tulsa. The mysterious driver turns out to be the spirit of Wills. Benson is taken on a tour of Wills’ life, told in an uncomplicated “and-then” fashion. Members of The Wheel play the musicians, with fiddler Jason Roberts as Wills, and actors play various characters from Wills’ life, including his five wives, former Texas Governor W. Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel and others whose music inspired Wills.

A Ride With Bob premiered in the spring of 2005 in Austin. It has been performed all across Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, as well as in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., at the Kennedy Center where two unexpected guests were President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. The play has been called "The most entertaining night in Texas” by Liz Smith of the New York Post. ///
