There were traditional vibrant colors of folklorico dancers and beautiful music from mariachi musicians during the first ever El Paso International Mariachi Festival gala dinner held at the Camino Real on September 16.

The gala was hosted by Mayor John Cook, who received a guitar signed by the El Paso Youth Symphony Orchestra and Phillip Gabriel Garcia, creator of the event and founder, music director and conductor of the El Paso Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Attendees were treated to a performance by musicians and folklorico dancers, who also attended workshops during the festival, held Sept. 15-19, and more than 400 students performed at the Plaza Garibaldi and Mariachi Extravaganza concerts and a mariachi Mass at St. Patrick Cathedral. /// |
