You would think that when a custom home builder remodels their personal home the process would be easy and quick. When you have an active family of three young children, a business office in your home, your staff coming daily for meetings and you are living in the house while construction is in progress, the remodeling process can be challenging. Oh, by the way, did I mention Carlos also had to fulfill his schedule of shifts as a Lieutenant in the El Paso Fire Department?

Juanita and Carlos Garcia of ICON Custom Builder first built their home 10 years ago with the thought of a family and business compound. They placed the elements of custom home building at the time into the design. Now, 10 years later, after expanding their approach to custom home design through building many homes for their customers, they wanted to modernize their home and include many of the special features they created for their customers. They knew what they wanted, but had to juggle the production schedule. As always, the children’s side of the house needed to come first. If they are happy, then that is a big step in keeping mom and dad happy. Juanita and Carlos set up “Camp Garcia” in the living room and kids, mattresses and all of the kids “stuff” migrated during construction. Under their supervision Juanita and Carlos had their team of carpenters, painters, tile setters, plumbers and electricians tackle the children’s bedrooms and bathrooms. It went pretty quickly and the kids were back in their space in less than a month’s time.
Next on the construction agenda came the kitchen, an open family/living room, the dining room (which also functions as the staff and customer meeting room) and the front entry. Not only did these areas have to consider family use in the plan, but this was an area that perspective customers might see, so the incorporation of the latest décor and finish techniques, plus the placement of functional and attractive appliances, were musts. ICON Custom Builder has mastered the use of stone surfaces in their home interiors and this was a priority for Juanita and Carlos in the kitchen, family room, master bedroom and master bath.
Juanita wanted to also create a very contemporary entrance to their home and the front entryway got a new ceiling surface, wall treatments, a custom wood front doors system and a beautiful entry lighting fixture.
When the family and business social interior areas were completed, the next phase was to update the master bedroom and master bath. The master bedroom was given a crisp modern style with an electric fireplace, stone embellishments, a flat panel television, and beautiful flooring. Even though not visible, the entire home’s audio-video infrastructure and controls were renovated with state-of-the-art systems. The master bathroom was laid out with an expansive vanity and a jet tub with a polished wood step up and a stone exterior. The shower is a full enclosure with glass walls and a finely detailed tile and stone floor.
Extended family members converge during spring and summer months to enjoy the pool and patio area with Carlos, Juanita and the children. This renovation of the outdoor dining and cooking space was important and completed just in time to take advantage of pool and outdoor barbecue season. Now that the house remodel is completed, Juanita and Carlos can enjoy their beautiful personal home and feel like one of their own customers. /// |
