One of their projects, a custom built home near Mesilla Park, is a stunning example of their work. "Although we are known for our idyllic Tuscan architectural style, we have built homes inspired by a variety of architectural styles and design philosophies based on client preferences," explains architectural designer and co-owner Matt Adams. This particular home features the rich materials and elegant details on which the firm has built a solid reputation, while also incorporating all the requests of the client, to include a unique floor plan and layout.
The strong use of simple materials like wood, stone and granite take on a new elegance in this home with well thought out patterns, textures and rich colors. From floor to ceiling, every detail is carefully placed for stunning effect. The majority of the flooring in the home is travertine stone intricately placed in a 5-tile Versailles pattern. The travertine is also used in a brick formation in several areas such as in some of the double barrel vault ceilings, around the fireplace, in several arched niches throughout the home, and on the bar area separating the kitchen and dining area. The attention to detail is just as evident in the home's ceilings. The entry way and hallways have the double barrel and the master bath boasts a barrel arch. Other ceilings are painted in rich brown tones that bring added warmth and feature wooden beams and soffits with corbels. Several recessed skylights with wooden cross beams are nice touches as well.
In addition to the wood and stone, the kitchen also incorporates copper accents, granite countertops and a Venetian finish on the walls. The sleek stainless steel, hi-end appliances include a massive double door refrigerator. With bar seating for six and an adjacent dining area, it is perfect for family meals and entertaining. A particularly unique feature is the nearby butler's kitchen, which has all the cooking tools and appliances of the main kitchen. Matt explains, "Due to the open floor plan concept, sometimes cooking in the kitchen will fill the entire great room with the smell of cooking spices and marinades. By building a small chef's or butler's kitchen that closes off from the great room, we were able to minimize the transfer of cooking odors for more formal gatherings."
The family's private area is the secluded upstairs which, in addition to the master suite, includes two other bedrooms, each with on-suite bath, and a large carpeted play/living room just for the children. The master bedroom has striking dark wood floors and a private balcony overlooking the pool and patio area. The attached bath includes a stone shower and a double vanity with a colored tile backsplash. It leads into an enormous walk-in closet big enough to be a room in itself.
In keeping with the GL Green commitment to "setting the standard in ideal living," this home has all the amenities and extra rooms that really allow the owners to enjoy a high quality lifestyle without ever having to leave their home. In addition to a formal living area, there is a more casual spot for gathering around the television and a carpeted media room with an enormous screen and projection system. There is also a home gym and a detached office on the other end of the back porch; the perfect set up for working from home without the added distractions.
"I believe that the most unique feature of the home is that the pool is actually located on the side of the house rather than the rear," notes Matt. "The home and outdoor living concepts were custom designed to accommodate this requirement set forth by the owners who were interested in following the design principles of Vastu, which requires the water features to be on the north side of the home." Given that the lot faces east, the team at GL Green had to do some creative thinking to meet the clients wish list without making the layout look awkward or out of place. This was accomplished by constructing a large covered patio with a full outdoor kitchen and orienting the windows in the main living area to face towards the pool. Coupled with the expansive backyard, that runs the length of the home, the layout all comes together seamlessly.
With a layout custom tailored to the owners' desires and all the gorgeous architectural and design elements that GL Green is known for, this home is certainly the picture of ideal living. There is no doubt that this family is certainly living the good life. /// |
