A football legend visited the borderland this past March in support of United Blood Services. Hall of fame quarterback Joe Montana was the guest speaker at this year's Sunland Derby Gala at the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. Tickets sold out quickly for the meet and greet with Golden Joe where guests were able to shake hands and pose for individual photos with the Notre Dame alumnus before heading to the ballroom for cocktails, dinner and live and silent auctions of Joe Montana memorabilia.

The legendary ball player then took to the stage for a motivational talk which included personal, inspiring and often humorous tales of his experiences both on and off the football field. Joe also touched a bit on the spirit of the weekend saying "whatever horse you pick, I hope he wins," as well as noting the importance of the work done by United Blood Services. "One of the most important things we can do as members of a community is to ensure an adequate reserve blood supply." Needless to say the entire event was a success with more than $50k raised for the El Paso United Blood Services. ///
