Chef Jose Lugo proudly led his students from the El Paso Community College culinary program in creating a menu of pecan smoked duck salad served with a splendid steamship roast. Other students from Skills USA and ProStart also donned their white hats and cooked up some fabulous dishes such as the decadent bananas foster made with white chocolate and banana bread pudding, under the tutelage of Chef Suzi Holcomb.
I would highly recommend this fantastic and tasty annual event to any food connoisseur. It's fun and informative, and you will certainly leave happy and full. Most importantly, all the money raised from this event is donated to charity. This year's funds went to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger. /// |

The El Paso Rotary Club turned the El Paso Convention Center into a feast for the senses this past September at their 18th annual Celebrity Chef Gala. This year's event had 13 restaurants and culinary programs on hand highlighting some of their best entrees, side dishes, desserts and wines. The executive chefs themselves graciously provided cooking demonstrations and chatted with guests.
The Red and White Wine Bar served a delicious surf and turf entrée of tilapia wrapped in thin slices of New York strip steak with a garnish of asparagus in prosciutto. Slices of baguette topped with capriccio meat, greens, aroma cheese and red pepper vinaigrette were available at The Italian Kitchen West's booth. Executive Chef Guliana Cline, owner of Trattoria Bella Sera Italian Restaurant, cooked up several delights including a thick seafood cioppino, roasted garlic pasta served the traditional way without sauce, and creamy homemade nutmeg and mango gelatos. P.F. Chang's made their spicy chicken lettuce wraps and served mini-versions of their famed Great Wall of Chocolate. Other savory dishes included: smoked marlin flautas from Shellsy Oyster Bar, Franjelico seared pears and ice cream from Oasis Bistro and Lounge, the fabulous chocolate tower from the Coronado Country Club, and deliciously tender pork tacos from Crave Kitchen and Bar. |
